Hey,

I set out last year to read as many books as I could. I did pretty well. Here is a list of what I read in 2012:

  2. Elizabeth I: Collected Works Edited by Leah S. Marcus, Janel Mueller, and Mary Beth Rose 427 pages

  3. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold 372 pages

  4. Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez 120 pages

  5. The Lady in the Tower: The Fall of Anne Boleyn by Alison Weir 464 pages

  6. Playing the Black Piano by Bill Holm 128 pages

  7. Holding Patterns by Susan McLean 26 pages

  8. The White Queen by Philippa Gregory 408 pages

  9. The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri 426 pages

  10. Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut (re-read) 341 pages

  11. The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory 377 pages

  12. The New York Postcard Sonnets by Phil Dacey 72 pages

  13. The Haunting of Hill House (re-read)  by Shirley Jackson 246 pages

  14. The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory 661 pages

Total pages: 4405

I had wanted to make sure I read a book for each month of the year and I did two better, though truth be told the short ones are poetry so they're almost like padding the count in a way. I really enjoyed each book I read and found each enlightening, entertaining, challenging, and a pleasure to read in their own rights. I almost think that the Collected Works of Elizabeth I and Dante's Divine Comedy should count for two each, but we're not going to split hairs. As you can see, English history is a passion. Either in fiction or factual form, I really enjoy reading about it. In 2013, my first book will be about the War of the Roses, the period that preceded the Tudors. I also hope to read much more fiction and other pieces in the coming year. Maybe I can top the 14 I read in 2012 by at least one! We shall see. I'd have to say, emotionally, Jim Beaver's book was the most moving. I may have read it almost a year ago, but I still carry its message with me each day.

So, what did you all read in 2012?
