I Want My MTV

Hey Reader,

MTV turns 25 today. I will turn 24 in September, and while I know I'm technically supposed to be too young to remember when the channel was new, I do remember. I was a strange, strange child. Most days when I was little, I was either in front of the TV watching Nickelodeon or MTV. And I still remember ALL of my favorite videos. It's probably why I'm so good at "Name that Tune."
A few of my favorite videos from when I was a kid have to be Ah-ha's "Take on Me" mainly because it was so neat and cool. I also loved any video by Peter Gabriel, especially "Sledgehammer." And while Michael Jackson has gone total fruit loop, I can say that I loved the "Thriller" video. It was always a must watch for me. I also absolutely LOVED the "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats. Of course, how can anyone forget Dire Strait's "Money for Nothing." There's so many videos from when I was a kid that I love. I can't listen to the classic hits station, actually, without seeing the video that goes with a paticular song in my head.

I also can say I actually remember Beavis and Butthead. Good times, good times. It's a stupid show, featuring two utterly stupid characters, but boy was it ever funny. You just couldn't believe anyone was that dumb. If I wasn't trying to collect anime(which is more expensive than crack), I'd buy the DVDs. I'd have to say my favorite Beavis and Butthead moments are when Beavis was thrown dow n the hill in the tire, the time when Beavis had a bloody nose the entire episode, and of course, how can anyone forget, the time they got "drunk" off the non-alcoholic beer. There'll never be anything like that show again, although that might be a good thing...

All in all, I've had fun thinking back and remembering my favorite MTV moments, before it got ruined by rap and reality television. Back when they actually RAN more than ten videos during the day. The videos these days have absolutely nothing on the classics of the 1980s.

Until next time,

Do you ever see King of the Hill? It's SO Texas sometimes I wonder if the rest of the country gets it, but its hysterical. It was created by the same guy that did Beavus and Butthead. In fact, it's pretty obvious if you pay attention to his buddy Boomhauer.

I've tried to watch that show, but I didn't find it to be as funny. I don't know why, really. Maybe if I watched more of it. Lord knows I need to watch more TV!

Well, like I said, it really is Texas, though my family in Mississippi gets it since it isn't so different there. I've been in the North Texas area since 1982, so I just find it very funny most of the time because it's just too true.

I dunno, maybe I just don't get it. But then I haven't watched it very much so one never knows. I have to say, though, just because Fargo is set in Minnesota, very few of us actualy say "Yah betcha" and "don't y' know." Seriously. We laugh at those kinds of folks, don't y' know? *Wink

It really is funny if you get into it, especially the kid, Bobby (and I don't usually say that about kids). He's everything his dad did not plan for him to be...

I suppose. I don't generally know when it's on to tell you the truth. Lord knows I have like two tapes worth of TV to catch up on that I won't get to until the story is finished.
