Her Majesty's Dog

Well, my manga came fairly quickly this month. I read Her Majesty's Dog, and I must say, I like it thus far. It's different, that's for sure. I do like the way that Hyoue is so crass, but super over protective. In some ways, it's like he has Inuyasha's personality but with a bit more sexual bravado, but the story between him and Amane echoes the Sess/Rin story. Little girl finds dog demon in tree, dog demon decides to stay with and protect little girl. Only difference is they're both in modern times at a modern school. And Amane is pretty powerful in her own right with the use of names and all. I love the conflict between them, him being her "dog" and her the master but how she wants to be his friend (perhaps with benefits?? Besides "feeding," that is...it's soooooooo obvious that Hyoue wants her after all, and not just for "life force"), but yet they're not entirely equal. And Hiraka certainly gets under Hyoue's collar. He's got a superiority  complex to boot. Remind you of anyone??? Anyways, so far it's pretty good. I wasn't sure when I picked it up on recommendation from Nikkie, but I'm glad I did.

Until next time,

It sounds pretty interesting. The next time I'm ordering stuff, I'll have to check into it.

I really like the emphasis on the power of words and language, too. It's a nice addition to the story, and adds that needed "believability" that it wouldn't have otherwise. Amane can control spirits because of the power her words have, but she doesn't really, truly need them when it comes to Hyoue. He loves her dearly, and has already declared that his heart is hers. That doesn't mean he doesn't fight with her or get grumps or anything. He often is like "Why should I do this or that" but then does it anyways. Other times he does it without her really having to say anything and is all excited to be in a fight. It's really interesting and I'm intrigued by their relationship.

Amane just can't seem to figure out what Hyoue means by "she's mine" or why he insists that they "kiss" for him to feed off her life force. Really, all he'd have to do is touch her, maybe hold her hand or brush it with his or something, but he told her that it must be a kiss and she didn't question it. He reaaaaaaaaaly loves her, even though he's 500 and she's maybe 16 or 17 at the most. I like that aspect of it, too. It's certainly one I'm gonna keep reading. What can I say? I have a thing for possessive dog demons.

It sounds like an interesting series. I've been looking to get into other Manga as well, but I'm always wary because I'm very... picky.

The other night I picked up a novelized continuation of an Anime movie my husband introduced me to when I moved out here. The movie is Blood: The Last Vampire. I re-watched it the other night and discovered it's related to the series Blood+ which Adult Swim has been showing lately. However, I like how Saya is portrayed in the movie better than in the series. The series seems to be more about a teenage girl coming to terms with the fact that she's not human. In the movie, she's blood thirsty, bitchy and very much NOT human, not to mention a much more graceful fighter!

Anyway, the novel is ok, so far. It's focusing more on politics in 1969 Japan than anything else right now, but hopefully it'll get better. I'm looking into starting to read Death Note, though; I read a few chapters in the book store and thought it looked cool. I also might get Van Von Hunter; I used to read their online comic... Funny. Very Funny.

I am very picky, too. I wish I had a store where I could read/page through a few volumes of various manga before committing cash to it, but I don't. I took Feni's advice first on Kenshin, which I really like so far, and now Her Majesty's Dog from Nikkie.

I haven't gotten into Blood+, I confess. I certainly wouldn't mind checking out some more new manga, but for now I got a full reading list. With Inuyasha, Ranma, Rurouni Kenshin, and now Her Majesty's Dog I don't know how many more I want to branch out into just yet. We'll see, I guess.

I'm so glad you are enjoying it! Does the happy dance...

Sorry about being missing for so long!
