This Is Going to be a LONG Holiday Season. . .

Hey,

Well, I must say that I am not looking forward to the holiday season---whatsoever. Sure, I am looking forward to getting presents, spending time with family, snacking on treats that only come once a year, but I am NOT looking forward to the holiday shopping season for several reasons.

1) I have to work through it. Friday next week, somewhat like slave labor if you ask me, is a MANDATORY work day. There is no getting out of it, everyone at ShopKo MUST work it (or else, which bothers me a little cause it's just a little unfair. What if you have prior engagements and they just tell you NOW that you MUST work that day? Or what if the family is very insistent you NOT work because they have plans that you can't get out of. It's a bit ridiculous to demand EVERYONE work that day). I'm also miffed at my manager, who I usually like by the way. He has a sign up sheet for which shift you'd like to work. I KNOW I don't want to close if I can help it. Seriously. The thought of working the day after Thanksgiving from 6 PM to Midnight gives me nightmares. All the stuff to clean up. It'd be more like 12:30 or 1 AM before we actually GO HOME, you know. I told him I'd rather work 10 AM to 6 PM, but he hinted already that he wanted me to close instead. SO WHY DID HE ASK WHICH SHIFT I WANTED? ARRGH.

2) I am so broke. Beyond broke. I'm trying to figure out how to afford all of my shitty bills for the next month, and right now with my current balance AND next week's paycheck, I'm still going to be short about 50-90 bucks. I have to figure out how much I want to work today to cover those bills and hopefully have enough to cover Christmas presents. Right now, as it stands, I can't buy anyone a gift. Ironic, because it's not like I don't work, but considering all the bills I had this month, it's like I didn't work at all. I have all these gifts I'd LIKE to get people, but I don't have the money. The only option I might have, which I'd hate to do, is to bust into some of my savings that I have in a canister. That money is supposed to be piling up for a trip to New York to visit my friend, BUT I might have to take some to cover everything and get more than an innertube of a toilet paper roll for everyone as presents.

3) With all the working I've been doing, I haven't had the chance to write as much. My word count is abysmal at this point. I have a few things going for me on the writing, but I have almost no time. If it's not work, it's my addiction to video games (which I admit is my fault. What, remastering the Super Mario series on Super NES is fun!) I was called in today to work, and since I need the money, badly, I'll probably do it. I'm just hoping that it won't get me bit in the ass, like I'll end up doing it again tomorrow and Saturday, leaving me with no days off. I don't even know what my schedule looks like next week. I know I work Friday, but the times, I have no clue. Other than that day, beats me. I requested Thanksgiving off, but that doesn't mean I get it. By the way, who the FUCK shops on Thanksgiving that we have to be open, and I'm not talking emergency turkey meal situations. I mean actually SHOP SHOP. Don't they know the workers would like to be doing the same thing as everyone else: eating turkey dinner, sitting around with family, watching football, and sleeping it off? Either way, I'm hoping my request will go through so I can at least have that day off.

I also have to find time sometime this month or early next month to redo my bedroom. I'm getting some new furniture, I'm getting a new paint job, and I have to reorganize my closet extensively to prepare for the whole thing. I can't wait to have it finished, though, because I think it'll be a good change. I'll be able to actually store my DVDs in a better way than I have them now (which is not stored. They sit on top of the dresser). I'll be able to store my gaming systems in a more efficient manner when I'm not playing them. Right now they sit on the floor and can get kicked. I'm also looking forward to having less clutter crowding me all the time. It'll be nice to have all of that.

Anyways, I just can't wait till the holiday rush is over. The actual day isn't so bad, but the damn rush up to it is just awful. Don't get me wrong, I like getting people presents, and I enjoy getting them, and I enjoy the whole holiday itself, but people are insane. Why do I get the feeling I'm going to want to kill someone or myself by the time this is over?

Oh, and those of you curious as how low my word count is, here it is:

3972 / 50000 words. 8% done!

Stories like this make me really glad I work in internet sales... Not only do I get to pick my own hours, I am also perfectly capable of working from home if I don't feel like going to the office. But seriously, I hope things work out well for you - and good luck not getting overworked (but at least that would mean more money, right? Gotta find a silver lining somewhere...).

Oh certainly, need that silver lining. I'll try to remember that at 5 PM Friday when I'm stuck closing the day after Thanksgiving. Yeehaw, 2 PM to 11:15 here I come. Can anyone say someone's gonna die?
